I’m one of the lucky ones: an English literature PhD who landed a tenure-track professor job…at an evangelical Christian college, in a small town, eight hours from my nearest family and friends. Now I’m the misfit English professor: left of liberal in the land of the far right, happily single in a culture where marriage is a definite virtue (as long as it’s heterosexual, that is), decidedly pluralist in a school that’s training up Christian missionaries. Is this a tenable situation?

Welcome to the thoughts of a not-so-evangelical Christian teaching at an evangelical college, musing about a potential future career move outside academia, all while trying to find the joy in a less than ideal situation.
